Amazing scenes were witnessed on the morning of Thursday 24th November 2005, when a fleet of cars and maxis descended on BBSS to signal one of the best “invasions” ever planned, the return of the 1969 InterCol and League Football Champions, the BBSS First XI Football team. A project of BELEX, who scoured the globe to locate and invite home the team members from far and wide, this visit saw our football heroes of 1969 spending an emotional morning of interactive workshops with every class. Supported by BELEX personnel, our players returned to the very classrooms they sat in 35 years ago to share their knowledge, experience and pride they felt as students of Belmont Boys’ Secondary. Big men were moved to tears by the enthusiastic welcome they received from students, and the memories stirred by their strolls through familiar corridors and classrooms.
Two days later, the 1969 team was hosted at a gala Dinner and Awards Function at Crown Plaza Hotel where they were given awards of appreciation for their historical feat of sweeping all major school football titles in 1969, giving BBSS and the community of
